This past Earth Day, I decided to walk my dogs in the woods near by my house. As the sun was begining to set i noticed that the sunlight danced amoung the leaves of the trees and it was really quite a beautiful sight. Surpisingly I had my camera with me because I already had the preconcieved notion that i was going to find something beautiful to photograph, I just had no idea it would be something as simple as leaves on trees.

This is a photo montage of the Madrid International Airport. I am trying to reflect the unique way the archeticture of the airport makes one walking through it feel as if they are walking through a wave. The colors and sturucture of the building are overwhelmingly curved, but beautiful. The meaning behind this piece also is to relfect the fact that traveling always seems to be so jumbled and hectic. Instead of simply creating a montage that makes the airport look more like its actual appearensce i tinkered around making the floor levels un even and making the yellow pole on the right side of the photo not match up to show how it is almost a miracle to get through an entire day of travel and have everything come out perfect. Regardless of how well we structure our own lives, when one walks into an airport, this life is flipped upsidedown. We are now no longer in control of whether or not we will arrive in Albany with all of our luggage, or even on time for that matter. Our entire day is in the control of someone else.

Self Portrait

I created this picture when i was learning about light painting. To sucessfully light paint, one must make the shutter speed very slow, in order to capture the light moving around , and it must be absolutely dark in the room which you are shooting. I created this picture by taking a flashlight, and drawing a frame on my wall. After drawing the frame i shut off my light and moved to where i thought the center of the frame was, then i turned the light back on and drew in the outline of my face and after setting my cameras shutter speed for thirty seconds i came out with my self portrait.

Family Portrait

This photograph is the product of an assignment I was given this spring. We were studying portraits learning how to create a portrait from all aspects: staging the portrait, properly lighting a portrait and the evolution of portraits over time. My assignment was to create a portrait that evoked a overall feeling. In this photograph i was looking to extract the feeling of either suprise or tragedy, but as opposed to extracting this feeling through an overly serious picture, i tried to add a little bit of humor to it. I thought how many times has someone made a portrait of their mother getting hit by a car by his grandparents. So, I set out to create this random, slightly twisted image in my mind, and after a half hour of shooting pictures and causing all the neghibors to come outside to see what the problem was out in the street, I created a whole new version of a family portrait.
